Proper Cake Care Instructions and Tips

Cake Pickup and Transportation

Pickups:

For all cake pickups, your order will be packaged in a box or container. Please keep your box or container level! Carry the box with two hands out in front of you. Do not lean the box against your body. This might cause your cake to shift or tip!

Transportation:

During transportation, it is important, again, to keep your cake level. Place on the floor of your car or in the trunk. Do not place your cake on the seat of your car since most car seats are angled. Ideally, you should put your cake on the floor of the passenger seat in the front of your car with the AC on the feet setting. This will help keep your cake cool during transportation.

Avoid sharp turns and sudden stops.

Keep the cake out of direct sunlight or heat. Do NOT leave your cake in the car while running errands. It will melt, shift, crack, tip, or settle. Even if it will be quick and you have the AC on, it is best to drive directly home and put your cake in the fridge. Plan your errands AFTER your cake pickup.

Storing and Serving

Keep all cake and cupcake desserts refrigerated. It is recommended to take your cake out of the fridge 30 minutes-1 hour prior to cutting and serving your cake to allow the frosting to soften.

For weddings, it is okay to keep your cake out on display indoors for 1-2 hours prior to cutting. Any longer may cause your cake to settle, crack, or even tip. It is recommended to keep your cake in the fridge until your reception begins.

If you have an outdoor event, especially in the summer months, bring your cake outdoors 15 minutes prior to cutting and serving to avoid melting in the heat. Some condensation or "sweating" is to be expected due to the change in temperature during the transition from the fridge to outside.

Freezing and Thawing Cake

All cake can be frozen for 6 months or more! It is perfectly okay to freeze your cake if needed.

A cake order can be made ahead of time and frozen if needed to accommodate limited availability. You can also freeze leftover cake to avoid waste, or to save for a future date such as an anniversary.

To freeze:

Place your cake on a level shelf in your freezer, and allow your cake to freeze for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will allow the frosting and decor to be firm so they will not be smudged or ruined. Take your cake out of the freezer and wrap in 2 layers of Saran Wrap, pressing the wrap firmly (but gently) against the sides of the cake. Make sure all areas of the cake are covered well in the wrapping. Place your cake back in the freezer once it is wrapped properly. It can be stored in the freezer for weeks or months.

To thaw:

To thaw a frozen cake, remove from the freezer, and remove any Saran Wrap from the cake.

Place your cake in the fridge. For most orders, plan to thaw the cake in the fridge overnight the day prior to your event (Ex: place in fridge Friday night for a Saturday event). Larger tiered cakes may required 24 hours to thaw. Smaller cakes and cupcakes may only need a few hours.
